New Star Wars trailer hints at key plot points

Disney has released the full trailer for the third part of it’s epic new Star Wars trilogy, and if it doesn’t give you shivers of delight you were probably never a Star Wars fan.

While the trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker does raise questions such as, “if Rey is a trainee Jedi, where is her stupid Padawan braid?” it also encompasses all the grandeur expected of the finale to a Star Wars series.

This trailer is the last footage that will be released before the film launches worldwide on December 20th and fans are already hotly debating the plot points that are being hinted at.

Among these is the suggestion of the return of Palpatine’s (Ian McDiarmid), Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), who was killed in Star Wars: The Last Jedi but is likely returning as a “Force ghost”.

The trailer also seems to answer a question that many have been asking since it was leaked that one of the pieces recorded by John Williams for the score was called “The Falcon’s last ride”. The ship has been piloted by Rey before, and presumably if it were to crash as that title suggests the pilot would also be killed. The trailer, however, gives us a brief glimpse of Han Solo’s old friend Lando Calrissian, back in the pilot’s seat so the potential exists that he may in fact be the one who pilots that final journey.

Another death that is hinted at is that of C-3PO who tells the camera he wants to look at his friends “one last time”. This one feels very much like a bait-and-switch though and I wouldn’t be surprised to find that come the final reckoning Anthony Daniels’ character is still very much alive.

The mystery which is left most open however is the relationship between Kylo Ren and Rey who are alternately seen fighting on a platform in the middle of storm-tossed seas, and then also teaming up to beat a third mutual enemy.
