Among many visitors and even a few South Africans, Johannesburg has the reputation of being a grimy, or even unattractive city. These Instagram photographers will prove that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Famously one of the most treed cities in the world, Johannesburg is bursting with life, colour, and creativity and is fast becoming a cosmopolitan symbol for modern life in Africa.

Friends of Johannesburg Cemeteries was formed in September, with the aim of taking care of graves in Johannesburg’s oldest cemeteries, Braamfontein and Brixton. It is led by veteran JHF researcher and cemetery enthusiast Sarah Welham, and has the support of Heritage in the City of Johannesburg, and approval from Johannesburg City Parks. As a function of the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation, its activities will be reported on in the Annual Report and Financial Statements, which are audited and available to the general public. In anticipation of the commemoration of the centenary of the end of World War I, the Friends cleaned graves and surrounds in Braamfontein Cemetery, and then led a free tour of the graves and memorials of WW1 soldiers in both the Jewish and Main sections of the cemetery, placing poppies on their graves. Of all the commemorations that took place in Joburg and beyond, this was the most intimate and moving. Please consider supporting Sarah in this important work, by either volunteering time, labour and skills, or making a donation. For more information simply contact Eira on mail@joburgheritage.co.za

What is the purpose of our photographic journey ? For many there is a plethora of answers . To me it’s simple . I dream to one day capture the most amazing light I would ever be able to witness and my second mission is to constantly push myself to the limit . This I do by not following the crowd, by not being a conformist, by not being a copycat and a generic template of any other photographers. All this I strive for not because I am arrogant ,or feel that I am above others, I don’t do this to be different or simply just be one of those that goes upstream. All of the above I apply that one day ,I may get that one shot that makes me sit back and say I am now blown away by my own image . Till then I will follow the journey and pursue excellence. This is Johannesburg showing us some of her magical afternoon light . @fujixseries @fujifeed @_fujilove_ @fujifilmx_us @fujifilm_xseries @igersjozi @iheartjoburg @southafricagrams @shotleft @loves_cityscapes @citygrammers @streetphotographers @streetphotographyinternational @streetphotographyworldwide @streetphotographerscommunity #streetphotography #citylife #city #cityofgold #jozi #johannesburg #southafricathroughmyeyes #fujinon #fujifans #fujifilm #fujixt2 #fujifilmxt2 #urbanexploration #urbanphotography #concretejungle #sunset_vision #sunsets #sunset_stream #sunsetlovers
