Country music icon, Dolly Parton, has done the seemingly impossible and reunited the two still-living Beatles stars Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr for her cover of their iconic hit “Let it Be”.
McCartney and Starr both appear on the song, with McCartney singing and playing piano and Starr on the drums. Also appearing in this unreal cover are famed rock singer and guitarist Peter Frampton and Fleetwood Mac’s Mick Fleetwood. Parton debuted the song last week, which is scheduled to formally release it on her upcoming album titled “Rockstar”.
“I was so proud of getting to sing songs like ‘Let It Be’ with Paul McCartney,” Dolly said on an episode of Talk Shop Live Thursday night adding that she had simply asked McCartney if he would collaborate with her, because “it’s his song, he co-wrote that.”
The cover originally had a different drummer, who had even recorded his part, but once McCartney had recorded his vocals the two discussed getting Ringo onboard.
“And so that’s what we did because I thought wow, that would be all the Beatles,” Parton said.
“Rockstar” will be Parton’s first truly rock album, and one she felt she had to make after she was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame back in 2022. Famously, Parton tried to decline the honour, believing she did not qualify and saying that she didn’t feel she had earned the right.
The album will also feature appearances by Elton John, Debbie Harry, Stevie Nicks, Parton’s goddaughter Miley Cyrus, and pop singers Lizzo and Pink.
