Website Givetastic recently conducted extensive research on Spotify’s playlists to definitively find the most popular wedding songs of all time. The site scraped over 100,000 Spotify meticulously curated playlists by searching for an array of wedding-related search terms, including but not limited to “wedding,” “first dance,” “wedding party,” “wedding music,” and “just married”.
According to the study, which was based exclusively on Spotify, Whitney Houston’s renowned chart-topper “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)” claimed the coveted first position as The Most Popular Wedding Song on Spotify playlists, with an impressive 10,933 inclusions. Some way off, in second place, was Bruno Mars with his aptly title track “Marry You”, which was found on a noteworthy 7,705 playlists. Perhaps surprisingly, Usher’s hit, “Yeah!” secured the third slot, more likely on the basis that it is a certified dance floor filler than because it fits the theme.
While he finished second on the most popular tracks list this is likely only because Bruno Mars fans have so many songs dividing their attention for a spot on the list. The American crooner boasts an impressive presence on 16,824 distinct wedding-themed playlists, with three separate tracks making the cut within the Top 50 Most Popular Wedding Songs list. Ed Sheeran emerges as the closest contender, gracing 12,499 playlists with two distinct songs. Whitney Houston’s one blazing number was enough to clinch her the third position.
